What is your management philosophy?

Peyton Manning best described my approach when he said “the most valuable player is the one that makes the most players valuable.”

In the early years of my career, I was primarily focused on my performance but through the years, my approach evolved to focus on developing others around me. It has multiplied my success and theirs.

I’ve been told my secret sauce is my ability to foster a service culture and develop individuals that deliver exceptional results and growth in financial performance. If I can help others see how amazing they are and discover their own potential they were not aware of, that makes my day!

What do you enjoy most about working in the hospitality industry?

I believe in the tremendous impact a hospitality business can have on a community. Years ago, I managed the opening of a full service Marriott hotel in a small Colorado town that was struggling and trying to find their place in tourism. The town had suffered the closing of the local steel mill and built a convention center with the hopes of attracting a nice hotel to help stimulate the economy. The day of the opening, my team was so proud to be representing the hotel and their city, and to be a part of the amazing transformation that was happening in the town. There were not many dry eyes.

I realized it wasn't just about the hotel, the room revenue, or the type of chicken we served. It was about being a part of the community. It was about giving people the opportunity to thrive and building something we can all be proud of that gives us purpose beyond our eight hour day.
